Maria Louisa is listed as 17 on the index of arriving passengers in New Orleans on 3/29/1943, National Archives Series No. M259-22. They would be of similar age. Elize did not appear on the arriving passenger list, but there were other entries whose first names were not clear. There were more entries of arriving passengers than there were on the ship's log, so that lends credence to Elize and Marie Louise being separate. It appears to be highly likely, because the birth records in France list the child's name as Marie Louise Vitter. Their birth years are the same, and Marie Louise Vitter was married to a Cathalongne, and the Cathalongne family was closely connected to Virginie Vitter, according to her obituary. The only difference is that she was listed as a resident of New Orleans for 67 years at the time of her death, which would have placed her arrival at 1840, but that's a very minor difference. Perhaps the trip on the Lyon wasn't their first trip to New Orleans from France, or more likely, there was a small error in calculating her date of arrival, or it was an approximation by her relatives. On several of the birth indexes of her children, she is listed as Marie Louise Viter.
There is also a death record of Elizabeth Vitter, who died at 65 years, 5 months on 1/26/1893, putting her year of birth likely in 1927, the same as Marie Louise. It is possible that she is a separate daughter of Pierre (Elize?), although her birth record was not uncovered in France. However, she is likely unrelated. Her death record of 1/26/1893 indicates that her name was probably Vetter, not Vitter, and that she was a native of Germany. She was the widow of William Ostermüller.
There were 11 Vitters listed in the index of arriving passengers, but only 9 listed on the ship's log. Some of their names and ages are not included in the index. So until the actual arriving passenger records are looked at, we won't know exactly who the extra Vitters are, if there are any.
