    LifeSketch Jacob's family was Amish and attacked by Indians in 1757. His wife, son Jacob, and a young daughter were killed, while he and two sons were taken captive. He later barely escaped. It\'s known as the Northkill Hochstetler Massacre (see sources). His life is a brilliant testimony of the divine life and love of Jesus Christ. His remarkable leadership, faith, courage, and willingness to sacrifice everything for peace contributed to the establishment of great blessings. The American Indians\' hearts softened, settlements spread, great freedoms were secured in the United States of America, and the gospel of Jesus Christ rolled forth worldwide.  [4, 7

    The Hochstetler Attack: Life on the Frontier
    One of the most well-known anecdotes in Amish and Mennonite history is the story of pacifist Jacob Hochstetler and the tragedy his family underwent at the Northkill Settlement in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
