Mrs. G. Bauer Dies Here After Year of Illness

Mrs. George Bauer, a resident of the Culbertson community for nearly half a century, passed away at her home here on the morning of Friday, December 22, at the age of 69 years, one month and three days.

She had been seriously ill for about a year and but little hope was entertained for her recovery after it was determined a few months ago that her ailment was cancer of the stomach.

Katherine Bauer (nee Brenning) was born in Kutter, Russia, on November 19, 1875, and came to America with her parents in 1895. The family located in McCook, Neb., and on March 28 of the following year, Katherine was united in marriage with George Bauer of Culbertson. Of eight children born to this union, six survive their mother. The youngest daughter of the family died in infancy and a son, Joe, died here in 1935.

After their marriage, Mrs. Bauer and her husband made their home on a farm northeast of Culbertson, where they lived for 34 years. Since retiring in 1930 they have resided in the village of Culbertson.

Mrs. Bauer was devoted to her family and home and was a kind, helpful neighbor. In her last illness, she endured her suffering with patience and true Christian fortitude.

Left to mourn her departure are her husband, one son, John Bauer, of Culbertson, five daughters, Mrs. Katie Yost of Denver, Mrs. Amelia Fahrenbruch of Bertrand, Neb., Mrs. Frieda Gies of Culbertson, Mrs. Pauline Hageman of Culbertson, and Mrs. Rachel Gerbitz of Sterling, Colo., 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by three brothers, Jake and Henry Brenning of McCook and Con Brenning of Longmont, Colo.

All six children of the deceased were here for the funeral services Sunday afternoon in the Congregational church, which were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Benj. Rieger, and Rev. E. Gutejahr of McCook. Burial was in the Culbertson cemetery.
