  [S1251] Find A Grave, Catherine Fite Packer Titman Armstrong. Daughter of John Fite and Catherine Elizabeth Cunningham Fite of Oxford, Sussex County, NJ. Catherine is listed in her father's Will dated 23 Jun 1784 in Sussex County NJ. First marriage to Pvt. John Titman in 1774 in Greenwich, Sussex County NJ.. There were parents of at least 3 children: Mary "Polly" 1775-1844 Anthony 1782-1849 Peter 1783-1840 The Titman family moved to Lincoln County NC about about 1800 with several of Catherine's siblings and their families. Some of her siblings then moved on to Tennessee and several stayed in Lincoln County NC. Titman died in 1830. Second marriage to widower Matthew Armstrong on 21 Nov 1831 in Lincoln County NC. She was age 77 and he was age 69 when they married and they had no children together. Armstrong died in 1838. Catherine is last listed in the 1840 Census in Lincoln County NC as head of household. The 1840 US Census shows one male age 15-19 and one female age 20-29 living with her as well as 5 slaves. Unable to verify whether the 2 free persons are relatives or hired employees.
