- [S915] Death Notices and Obituaries, Charles Michael Vitter Sr.
Charles Michael Vitter, Sr. passed away on August 14, 2021 at the age of 95.
He was a native of New Orleans and enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in both the European and Pacific theaters. He had a long career as an iron worker and steamfitter, during which he worked on the construction crew that built the Louisiana Superdome in 1975. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitter Local 60 and VFW Post 6640. He was a member of multiple carnival organizations throughout the years including Pegasus, and Zeus, and was a founding member of Atlas. He enjoyed life to the fullest, hosting crawfish boils, taking trips, and participating in everything New Orleans had to offer with friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Frances Vitter LeBlanc; grandchildren, Daniel J. LeBlanc (Rachel), Darrin J. LeBlanc (Tara), Jennifer Vitter, and Christopher Vitter (Michaela); great grandchildren, Kate and Madelyn LeBlanc, and Lucy Vitter; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rose Montalbano Vitter; parents, Paul Oliver and Eva Newman Vitter; son, Charles M. Vitter, Jr.; son-in-law, Richard P. LeBlanc; sister, Jane Vitter Young; and brother, Murray Vitter.
The family would like to give special thanks to Causetta Joseph of Visiting Angels for all the wonderful care she provided; and to all the past caregivers that were an enriching part of his life.
A private burial will be held in Lake Lawn Park.
