May 5, 1800, in Waldeck, Germany, emigrated to America, landing at Baltimore May, 1833, living for a time in Somerset Co., Pa., and Garrett Co., Md., reached Johnson Co., Iowa, USA, May 10, 1851, and was the first bishop of the Amish church in Johnson County, Iowa, USA. His sons Joseph and Frederick were bishops in the same church.
