Awesome

This is awesome! I have a book that goes back to the 1800s but this goes back further. I could probably help expand the family tree if you would like. Thank you! Would love to get in touch.

Hello! I'm looking for any family members who have more info on the Vitter baseball players.
The Jack/Harry/Frank Vitter generation, and also the Joe/Drue Vitter generation. I'm Joe's great-grandson and would love to share info with those who may have photos or stories. Thanks!

Re: Artigue/Artigues?

Hi, I can't find your relatives in our tree. All the ARTIGUES we're related to spell their name with a final s, and they come from Salies-du-Salat or very close by.

You can see some histories about the Artigues, including photos from our recent trip to France last fall, on the Relativity Research page https://vitter.org/familytree/ histories/relativityresearch.php

Hope that helps,
-- Jeff

Artigue/Artigues?

Researching Artigue ancestors of Arnaudville, Louisiana. Is your family name Artigues entirely different? I imagine an S could have been dropped. I have birth and death records for my great great great grandfather Bertrand Carlos Artigue who was from Lodes, France. (His father, also Bertrand Carlos Artigue is buried in Lodes. ) Just wondering if these family are connected.

Re: Help with gotz/Goetz

Hi, I couldn't find any of the relatives you mentioned in my tree. Did you find someone there?

I would recommend you do a search on Ancestry.com or gemeanet.org to see if you can find info on your ancestors.

Good luck!

Help with gotz/Goetz

I need a lot more help with my family tree. My grandfather Joseph goetz married a haller.joseph was orphaned in wurttemberg germany as a child. He married paulina haller.. she passed away in philadelphia pa.after childbirth. Joseph married my grandmother matilda strohmeiershortly thereafter to take care of his family. They lived in philadelphia and camden county New Jersey. My father was named paul born in 1920. I believe in total joseph goetz gotz had 11 children.

He told my parents about being raped as a child by the Catholic priests and brothers. He was forced to pull the long boats across the Rhine from greffern to france on a daily basis? Any help on my family history would be greatly appreciated.

Bishop Solomon Yoder

I have also been trying to trace my family tree and have found out alot of info that I didn't know. I believe Veronica and Solomon had another child named Samuel Yoder. He was born 2/19/1833 in upper mahantongo, pa. on Findagrave.com he is listed as PVT. Samuel Yoder. Samuel married Margaret Elizabeth (Rockey), one of their children was Amos Richard Yoder. He married Sylvina Mae (Young) and one of their children was named Vinnie Margaret (Yoder) Hetrick. Vinnie married Harry Norman Hetrick and one of their children was Carvin Norman Hetrick (my grandfather). I had no idea there was a town named after the yoders in KS, I also didn't know that Solomon bought all that land and the original buildings are still standing. Further down the line Snydertown, PA was also named after the family. Anna M.(Lowald) and John Snyder Sr. "Black John"

Hello!

I was doing some research on my family history when I can across your website. My grandmother on my fathers side was Elaine Yrle (Gebhardt) she was married to Francis Armand Yrle and they had to sons. John (Jay) Yrle and my father, Ronald Allen Yrle (1954-2020). Would you have any further knowledge of my grandfather, Francis? My didn’t speak much of him other than to let us know he wasn’t kind.

Clara Weaver Person ID: I26895

Hi Jeff and Sharon,

I have been working on my family tree in Ancestry for the past 6 months or so. I came across your family tree website which is absolutely amazing. I have a lot more research to do on your website.

I noticed one error and that has to do with my great grandmother, Clara Weaver Stiver. You have listed her as being single and passing away when she was 91. In fact, she married William Stiver and passed away in 1905 at the age of 38. I have various sources, but one is impeccable and that is my grandfather, Ora Stiver, who took me in the early 1970s to many of the cemeteries in Elkhart County, IN pointing out my ancestors' headstones and explained relationships. I did a simple family tree back then and still have the notes.

I have the hope chest that her uncle, Christian Weaver, made for her wedding to William Stiver. Her name is etched on the inside. I have a photo of her as well which I found in the hope chest which I attached.

I look forward to reading more about the Weaver family. If I find I have any information that you do not have, I will email it to you

Great job with this genealogy site.

I have been trying to connect my great grandmother with a Revolutionary War patriot. Your site has helped me find the missing piece, which connects me with my Patriot that I needed for my DAR membership. Thank you!

Re: Platenberg Family - F54758

Scott, thanks for your note. You are a double 5th cousin of my sister-in-law Mary Wilke Vitter through the Davie family line. Here are the two paths that connect you as 5th cousins:

https://vitter.org/familytree/ relationship.php?altprimarypersonID= &savedpersonID=& secondpersonID=I1184&maxrels= 3&disallowspouses=0& generations=50&tree= vittertree1&primarypersonID= I69580

I unfortunately don't have much info about your grandfather Herman Platenberg. Your grandmother Winifred Davie Platenberg is Mary's 3rd cousin 2x removed, so that's the connection. Herman was apparently born in Minnesota. I had them getting married on 25 July 1920 in Los Angeles, but I just saw a marriage record from the Bronx, NYC dated 2 September 1920.

I'd welcome getting more information about your family.

Regards,

-- Jeff Vitter

I came across your website as my oldest daughter (University of Oregon, Class of 2023, Go Ducks!) is researching information about her paternal Great Grandfather, Herman Platenberg, listed on your website. I am son number five of Robert Ide Platenberg (Herman's son) listed as family F54758. If you ever want details about F54758 then I'm your man, er cousin! All the best.

Re: Sarah Herrin - your ID I19199

Stan, just noticed that we didn't get back to you; sorry for the late reply. Here's the Individual page for Sarah Herrin in the family tree:

https://www.vitter.org/familytree/ getperson.php?personID=I19199& tree=vittertree1

My wife Sharon is not blood-related to Sarah; the connections are each via a couple of marriages, which you can see graphically if you click on the "Connections" tab on her Individual page and then press "Search".

We have the marriage record of Sarah Herrin and Benjamin Stogsdill (tho the record says Stogsdon instead of Stogsdill) that lists William Herrin as the Surety (and thus very likely Sarah's father). In addition she named one of her children William. This marriage record is not yet loaded into the family tree, but here's a direct link to it:

Kentucky County Marriage Records

There's also the FamilySearch record for Sarah, but no indication of siblings. Perhaps she had a sibling named John. Here's the record:

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/ person/details/9X53-J19

Good luck in your research,

-- Jeff

I would like to know more about Sarah Herrin Stogsdill. The information you have listed for her - birth (1775) and birthplace I have found in the 1850 census. Where did you obtain information about her death date and father? You have her living in Pulaski Co., KY in the 1800's

My John Herrin, b 1782, married in Pulaski Co., KY in 1801 and I am looking for possible links.

Re: Tranel/Rakers Family Connection

Brenda, thanks for your note.

Johann Herman Bernard Tranel and Anna Helena Rakers are 3rd great grandparents of my brother-in-law, who grew up right across the Mississippi River from where the Tranel family settled in the 1800s. Here's their Family page from the family tree:

https://vitter.org/familytree/ familychart.php?personID=I23870& tree=vittertree1

You can click on the links for the various individuals and see their info. There are source citations for several of them that document the info shown.

Hope that helps!

We have lots of Nicolay info on the vitter.org site. Check it out. Please let me know any additions or corrections of the info. We're especially interested to get names of people and dates and places of their events (births, deaths, marriages, divorces, special events, etc.).
